Well I'm sure almost everyone has heard now that we got another puppy :). It's pretty amazing really. Since we are so close to getting our new house, we have been starting to look for a new dog (Lee wants a big dog so he doesn't have to walk the "sissy" dogs when we go out, lol). He wanted something huge and awesome. For a while we considered getting a great dane, but the cost of getting/having one was looking a little excessive, so Lee has been set on a Doberman ever since. Just these past few weeks, since the house is moving along nicely, we have been looking online at Doberman breeders in the area. Everything online seemed to be around 800 - 1000 dollars...not exactly in our budget. So we have been looking on the shelter websites hoping one will pop up at the pound that we could rescue sometime soon.
So, yesterday at work, one of our long time clients - who is a doberman breeder - called in really upset and spoke to a few of the girls I work with saying that he came home to find his female doberman had just killed 5 of the 8 puppies in the litter. Luckily he had come home to stop her from getting to the other 3. The female had rejected the litter and was refusing to feed the remaining 3 puppies so he was having to keep them separated. Feeling overwhelmed he said he just can't do it. He had to travel to work and was gone 10 hours at a time throughout the day, so there would be no way the puppies would survive going that long without being fed by bottle. So he found 2 other people to take 2 puppies, and Lee and I volunteered to take the last little girl! It is so sad what happened, but it actually turned out to be a blessing for us! Honestly, what are the chances?
So little puppy, who doesn't yet have a name, is 9 days old today. She was born on March 15th. She doesn't quite have her eyes open yet, she is a tiny little thing. She had a small cut on her head, which thankfully, was only skin deep. We are so glad that mommy dobie didn't get her too, she is a lucky little girl.
Lee absolutely loves her. He is such a good daddy. Last night, she woke up a few times crying to be fed and Lee wouldn't let me do it! He insists to do almost all the feeding, so she will bond really well with him (since the doxie's cling to me so much, haha). He even had his alarm set for every couple hours so he could bottle feed her. So cute. She slept pretty well through the night though. She really likes her heating pad :).
Here is a picture of her first bottle feeding. Some puppies have a hard time accepting the bottle...which can be dangerous if they don't eat, but she did really well. She ate like a pig this morning!
We're trying to not get overly excited, because there still is a chance she may not make it. But we're going to do everything we can for her, and hopefully...a few months from now, she will be healthy, happy, and a great dog for us :)
Moko is a good name
omg... I totally teared up at your story... I will keep my fingers crossed for your little girl... :)
haha Moko. Jason was trying to get us to name one of the dachshunds "Venger" also. Silly kids.
